About The Film

To some, he was a hero. To others, a criminal. He was a quiet man who became head of the largest Jewish rescue operation of World War Two. When the war ended, his account was silenced and he was forgotten. For half a century, the remarkable story of Swiss diplomat Carl Lutz was buried deep within Switzerland's federal archives. Until now.

Carl Lutz: Dangerous Diplomacy is the riveting true story of a shy man who became a hero; a timid bereucrat whose bold stand against Hitler cost him almost everything. As a representative of neutral Switzerland, Lutz was sent to Budapest in 1942 to quietly represent British and American interests. His job was simple: to generate paperwork, and stay out of the conflict. But in March 1944, the Nazi military pushed into Hungary and began killing Jews in the streets, and systematically deporting them to death camps. Outraged, Lutz appealed to his superiors for help. But the Swiss government, along with the Allies, ignored what was happening, and the mass genocide continued. So Lutz took matters into his own hands.
